Jack Brody’s Funky Junket

Well, I’m just back from a little fact-finding research trip to Beijing, which handily coincided with the Chinese Olympic Games. That was good timing, wasn’t it? That’s what athletics is all about, after all – timing – and being the fastest or highest or longest or whatever.

The events took place in The Bird’s Nest Stadium, a very attractive affair, I must say. I met a nice lady there who escorted me around. As they say, “A bird in the hand is worth two in the nest.” Or something like that.

The closing ceremony was absolutely spectacular. It reminded me of Rochdale high street on a Saturday night, only more oriental, and with slightly less fighting.

So there was a little bit of hoohar about the Tibetans, but nothing that the Chinese government couldn’t stamp out, and good on ’em for doing so! I didn’t see Tibet taking part in the proceedings and competeing, so who are they to say at the end of the day, really?
